How to take a screenshot

Here you'll find a quick guide to taking screenshots on the following platforms:

  • Windows
  • iMac and MacBook
  • iPad and iPhone
  • Android

Windows

To take a screenshot on Windows, press the print screen (or prt scrn) button on your keyboard. The exact location of this button varies from keyboard to keyboard, and between PC and Laptop, but it's usually quite easy to find. With most PC keyboards it is on the top row of keys, in the row after f12.

Once you have pressed this button, open up paint by clicking the windows button in the bottom left corner of your screen and either finding paint from the programs list, or searching for paint there.

Once you have paint open, press ctrl+v. The screenshot that you took should then appear in paint like so:

To save this, click the 'save' button under the 'File' menu in the top left of the paint menu:

Once done, you can attach the saved image to an email and send it over.

Alternatively, if you have some data you don't want to share, you can crop the picture in paint before you send it by first clicking the selection box from the menu at the top:

Then draw a box around what you would like to remain in the image, then clicking 'crop' from the same menu:

This will remove everything from the image except the area you selected.

Keep in mind though that in some cases it's very useful for us to see the web address or URL when trying to help you solve certain issues.

Apple iMac and MacBook

In order to take a screenshot with a Mac, just press command/cmd+shift+3:

That'll put a picture of your full screen on your desktop - then you can just attach that and send it over!

Alternatively, if you have some data you don't want to share, you can take a screenshot of a specific area by pressing command/cmd+shift+4 and then drawing a box around what you want to save.

Keep in mind though that in some cases it's very useful for us to see the web address or URL when trying to help you solve certain issues.

iPad and iPhone

To take a screenshot with your iPad or iPhone, simply press both the power button (either at the top or on the side) and the 'home' button (the round button on the front) at the same time.

The screenshot will then be saved into your photos ready to attach to an email and send to us. You can find it under the 'all photos' folder.

Android

With most Android devices, pressing the power and volume down buttons together.

The screenshot will then be saved into your photos ready to send to us. The folder that it will be saved in depends on the device you're using.

If you can't find the picture, or if pressing power and volume down doesn't take a screenshot, it's best to search the internet for specific instructions for your phone model.
